Minecraft Dungeons: Hidden Depths (DLC)

Minecraft Dungeons is a breezy, approachable action-RPG that strips the genre down to its most satisfying loop: smash mobs, collect loot, tweak your build, repeat. Hidden Depths is one of its paid DLC packs, and as the name suggests, it pulls the whole operation beneath the ocean. The Orb of Dominance has shed a shard into the deep, awakening creatures that were quite happy sleeping down there, and it falls to your blocky hero to sort the mess out. The new levels lean into aquatic visuals in a way that actually gives the game a distinct atmosphere. Kelp forests, sunken ruins, and bioluminescent passages make for more visually interesting backdrops than some of the base game's later biomes. The enemy roster gets expanded with ocean-themed variants, and the new gear slots in cleanly with what you already have, so if you have been grinding a particular build, you will find pieces here that complement rather than completely replace your setup. That said, Hidden Depths is short even by DLC standards. Two to three hours for a single run is realistic, and if you are playing on a higher difficulty tier for better loot, maybe a bit longer, but do not expect a sprawling campaign expansion. From a build-variety standpoint, the DLC does what the base game does: reward experimentation with artifacts and enchantments without demanding you master any of it. You can coast through on a tanky melee setup or kite everything with ranged gear and still see the credits. The boss encounter at the end is the most mechanically interesting fight the pack offers, though calling it a puzzle would be generous. It is more of a "watch the pattern for thirty seconds" situation. Hardly a FromSoftware moment, but satisfying enough for the audience this game is clearly aimed at. And that audience matters here. Minecraft Dungeons, Hidden Depths included, is genuinely excellent for co-op sessions with younger players or people new to action-RPGs. The shared and split-screen co-op support, cross-platform multiplayer, and controller-friendly design make this a rare game that actually works as family couch co-op without the more experienced player feeling like they are babysitting the UI. If you are a solo RPG veteran hunting for mechanical depth or narrative payoff, this DLC will feel thin. There is no story worth discussing, character arcs are nonexistent, and the writing is functional at best. The worldbuilding is Minecraft-adjacent window dressing rather than genuine lore construction. Hidden Depths is a competent, cheerful slice of content that does exactly what it promises and not much more. If you already own Minecraft Dungeons and have been playing it regularly with friends or family, this is an easy addition. If you bounced off the base game after a few hours hoping things would deepen, this pack will not change your mind.
