Hermes: Tricks of Thanatos

I picked this up expecting a casual puzzle-strategy game, and that's what Hermes delivers: you're plugging demigods into lanes to hold back waves of underworld creatures escaping through Hell's gates. It's stripped-down tower defense with a roguelike progression angle - each run gives you deity picks and upgrades that carry forward incrementally. The Greek mythology wrapper is nice, but the actual decision-making is shallow. You'll spend most runs just placing units on obvious tiles and hoping the AI gods do their job. Where it stumbles: the tutorial feels like an afterthought, enemy patterns lack the variety that would make optimization worthwhile, and there's no feedback loop that makes you want to chase meta builds. Where it lands: it's a low-stakes time-killer with cloud saves, some achievement hunting, and a price point that doesn't sting if it doesn't click. This isn't competing with Into the Breach or FTL. It's the game you launch when you want strategy-adjacent gameplay without actually thinking hard.
