Dying Light's Gun Psycho Bundle drops extra firepower into a parkour-driven zombie survival RPG that still holds up years after launch.

Dying Light is a first-person action-survival RPG set in Harran, a quarantined open-world city eaten alive by a viral outbreak. You play as Kyle Crane, an undercover operative dropped into a place where the infected own the streets after dark and every rooftop is a potential escape route. The core loop is parkour, scavenging, crafting, and very loud things happening to zombie skulls. The Gun Psycho Bundle is a DLC cosmetic and weapon pack layered on top of that foundation, not a story expansion, so what you are really buying is the base game experience with a little extra gear to start with. From an RPG standpoint, Dying Light does more than its zombie-shooter contemporaries. There are three separate skill trees covering Survivor, Agility, and Power, and the progression actually changes how you move through the world, not just how hard you hit. Agility unlocks feel genuinely earned - late-game Crane vaults across rooftops like someone who has been running for his life for months, which sells the fiction in a way stat sheets alone never could. Crafting feeds into this nicely: you are constantly building, upgrading, and repairing weapons, and there is real satisfaction in turning scavenged junk into electrified machetes or improvised firearms. The Gun Psycho additions lean into the ranged side of that equation, which is fine, though guns in Dying Light are loud, ammo-scarce, and a magnet for every infected in earshot - using them well is its own tactical puzzle. The open world holds up. Harran's slum district and the later Old Town area are distinct, densely built environments that reward exploration over waypoint-chasing. Night cycles shift the game into genuine tension territory, with Volatiles that can outrun you and sense movement making after-dark scavenging feel like a different genre entirely. The writing is functional rather than brilliant - the main story arc hits familiar beats and the dialogue rarely surprises - but side content is where the game earns goodwill, with missions that occasionally subvert expectations and NPCs who feel like survivors rather than quest dispensers. Don't expect Disco Elysium-level narrative architecture. Do expect a world that is consistent enough to stay immersive. Weaknesses worth naming: the story drags in its middle third, certain escort and fetch quests exist purely to pad runtime, and co-op (up to four players) is a blast but can trivialize difficulty scaling. The Gun Psycho Bundle specifically is thin as DLC goes - it's cosmetic and weapon content, not hours of new gameplay. Buyers expecting a meaty expansion will be disappointed. Buyers who want the full Dying Light package with a few extra toys at launch will get exactly that. For RPG-inclined players, the build variety is the real draw. The skill tree investment creates genuinely different playstyle profiles between a melee-focused Agility build and a more methodical Survivor-focused scavenger, and both approaches feel viable well past the forty-hour mark if you push into the harder content. Techland built something that respects player time more than most survival games of its era, and the overwhelmingly positive review consensus reflects that the core experience has held up.
