If your idea of unwinding is a two-hour glide through Norse longhouses with zero stakes and a good soundtrack, Aery - Vikings delivers. Anyone expecting depth, challenge, or replayability should look elsewhere.

I'll be straight with you: I review strategy and simulation games for a living, so a zero-pressure bird-flight game is about as far from my wheelhouse as you can get. That's exactly why I'm a useful voice here. Aery - Vikings is the kind of game that the strategy crowd dismisses in about thirty seconds, but has a clear, specific audience that deserves an honest evaluation rather than a sneer. The loop is simple and deliberately so. You fly through 13 open Viking-themed stages, collecting feathers scattered across each arena, and the story frames your journey as a divine task on behalf of the Norse gods. There are no enemies, no timers, no fail states, and no skill floor to clear. If you clip a longhouse wall at full speed, nothing happens. The whole point, as returning Aery series players know, is meditative exploration with responsive flight controls and a decent ambient score. On that narrow brief, it succeeds. The music does real work here, shifting tone between levels to carry emotional weight the sparse narrative cannot. What works: the feather visibility has been meaningfully improved over earlier entries in the series. Color-coded feathers now pop against their backgrounds, and particle effects make them readable from a distance. Level layouts are more legible than some predecessors, letting you trace a reasonable flight path through each stage without too much backtracking. The Viking aesthetic, longboats, fjord-style environments, runic architecture, gives the game a more cohesive visual identity than the patchwork-world entries in the series. What does not work: the narrative structure is a downgrade. Rather than feeding story fragments through each collectible, the story is front-loaded at the start and end of each level, which strips the only meaningful incentive for careful exploration mid-stage. Asset reuse from earlier Aery games is visible to anyone who has touched the series before. The game runs roughly two hours to completion, which is fine if the price matches, but leaves nothing for a second session. Glitched achievements have been flagged by the community and are worth checking before you chase the full completion list. For a complete newcomer to the Aery series, this is actually one of the more accessible entry points: the Viking theme is coherent, the controls are forgiving, and the 13 stages give you enough variety to stay curious for the full runtime. For series veterans, the formula is unchanged enough to feel repetitive. The honest framing is this: Aery - Vikings is a short, calm, single-use experience with a strong atmosphere and a weak story. It will not disappoint anyone who goes in knowing that. Diego, Scout Team
