Krafton just posted its best second quarter on record, and the company is pointing squarely at one game to explain why. Subnautica 2 has been a major commercial driver for the publisher, lifting the whole quarter to historic highs despite launching into one of the messier behind-the-scenes situations in recent memory. If you haven't been following the drama: the original Unknown Worlds developers filed legal action against Krafton, with accusations of sabotage thrown into the mix on top of the contractual dispute. It's the kind of publishing story that usually spells disaster for a game's momentum.
And yet players clearly don't care, or at least they care more about diving back into an alien ocean than they do about corporate courtroom theatrics. That's both a testament to how much goodwill the original Subnautica built up over the years and a sign that the sequel is delivering something real rather than coasting on nostalgia. The financial win does come with an asterisk though: legal battles at this scale are expensive, and Krafton is absorbing those costs even while celebrating the revenue bump. Whether the dispute gets resolved cleanly or drags on and starts eating into future development will be worth watching. For now, the game is selling, players are exploring, and Krafton's accountants are having a very good summer.
