And look, he's not wrong. Leon Kennedy carries decades of player memory and emotional investment. Any actor stepping into that role is going to get scrutinized frame by frame against a version of the character millions of people have personally been in survival horror scenarios. Cregger clearly understands the assignment here, which is to make a genuinely scary movie set in the RE universe rather than a greatest-hits adaptation that previous attempts have already fumbled. Creating new characters gives the story room to breathe without the weight of constant comparison dragging every scene down.
