About The Escapists - Duct Tapes Are Forever (DLC) Key
The Escapists - Duct Tapes Are Forever is a standalone DLC chapter for The Escapists, the top-down prison-break sim from Mouldy Toof Studios. It wraps the base game's core loop - routine management, contraband crafting, stat grinding, and guard manipulation - inside a spy-movie aesthetic. The prison here is less concrete walls and more secret-villain headquarters, which gives the level design a slightly different flavour while keeping every mechanical rule identical to the base game. If you have never touched The Escapists before, the short version is: you wake up, follow the daily schedule, build stats by exercising and reading, collect items, combine them into tools, and eventually punch a hole in reality large enough to walk through. From a systems perspective, this is a strategy game wearing an action game's clothes. Every escape attempt is essentially a resource-management puzzle. Duct tape and other crafting components have to be sourced, stored, and combined in the right order before guards catch you or a contraband search wipes your inventory. The decision tree on any given in-game day is genuinely interesting: do you grind intellect to unlock better crafting recipes, or do you build strength so you can overpower a guard and steal a key? The DLC does not add new mechanics on top of the base game, so veterans will recognise the ceiling quickly, but the map layout and thematic dressing make it a worthwhile additional scenario rather than a reskin. The tutorial situation deserves a direct comment. The Escapists as a whole is not forthcoming about its systems. The game respects your time by being short enough to restart without grief, but it does not hold your hand through crafting logic or stat thresholds. New players should expect to lose their first few attempts and treat those losses as the actual tutorial. Once the rhythm clicks - schedule, craft, test, fail, adjust - the loop becomes surprisingly compelling. That iterative problem-solving is where the real depth lives, and Duct Tapes Are Forever delivers it in a tighter, more focused package than some of the larger DLC maps. On the downside, the AI guarding patterns are readable to the point of being exploitable once you have spent a few runs mapping them. There is no dynamic response system; guards follow scripts, and experienced players will route around them with minimal friction. The mod ecosystem on this particular DLC is limited compared to the base game's PC community, and the Xbox platform listing means you lose access to community-created content entirely. Replayability after a successful escape is low unless you are chasing a faster completion time or a different escape route. Bottom line: this is a smart, focused little puzzle-strategy package best suited to players who enjoy tight resource loops and are fine with grinding a routine to break it. The spy theme is fun without being overbearing, and the 90 percent positive Steam review score reflects a community that knows exactly what it signed up for. Diego, Scout Team
