Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden Deluxe Edition

I spent 20 hours with Mutant Year Zero expecting a turn-based tactics game bolted onto a story mode. What I got was something weirder and better: a stealth-first tactical RPG where you scout enemy positions, set up ambushes, and execute clean kills before combat even starts. The Bearded Ladies (including HITMAN and PAYDAY veterans) understood that turn-based strategy shines when you're rewarded for patience and positioning, not just reflexes. The mutant crew has real chemistry, the post-human wasteland has teeth, and the build variety across multiple playthroughs justifies the 20-hour runtime without padding. It stumbles when forced encounters drop the stealth entirely, and some late-game missions feel aimless. But the core loop - creep through ruins, tag enemies, plan the ambush - stays fresh because stealth and tactics reward different brains on the same turn. Not a masterpiece, but a genuinely smart tactical game that respects your time.
