GamerScout Verdict
A sharp tactical addition for Darkest Dungeon veterans comfortable with the base game who want fresh party-building angles.

About Darkest Dungeon: The Shieldbreaker
I've sunk enough hours into Darkest Dungeon to know when a hero class actually changes how you build a party. The Shieldbreaker does exactly that. She's a medium-armor combatant built around piercing enemy defenses and poisoning, which sounds narrow until you realize how many late-game dungeon layouts punish standard tank-and-smash tactics. Her guard-breaking abilities open up new positioning strategies, and the poison scaling rewards you for committing to a build rather than patching together whatever heroes are available. The DLC bundle is slim: one hero, a handful of new monsters to flesh out enemy variety, and the Aegis Scale consumable item. There's no narrative expansion or new dungeon type, so don't expect narrative payoff. If you're already running the base game and want fresh tactical angles, Shieldbreaker earns her slot. If you're new to Darkest Dungeon, grab the base game first and save this for when the default roster feels predictable.
