Compare Darkest Dungeon prices across trusted key stores and find the best deal. Developed by Red Hook Studios. Published by Red Hook Studios. Released on 1/19/2016. Available on PC, Xbox. Genres: Indie, RPG, Strategy. Metacritic score: 84/100.

A punishing roguelike that treats your party's mental health like a resource, one bad dungeon run and your best fighter becomes a paranoid wreck.

I've sunk way too many hours into Darkest Dungeon, and it broke me in the best way. You're managing a team of heroes whose stress levels rise with every hit taken, every trap sprung, every turn spent in absolute darkness. They don't just lose HP, they develop phobias, paranoia, and quirks that sabotage future runs. The turn-based combat is tight and positional (front-row heroes tank, back-row casters nuke from distance), but the real game is the metagame: which broken hero do you bench? Which do you push through one more mission hoping they don't have a breakdown? It's relentlessly grim and the difficulty spikes are sharp, but that's the point. Your failures carve character into each run. The art direction is suffocating in the best way, and the narrator's dry, creeping dread never gets old. Fair warning: this game respects your time by ending it fast if you're bad at planning. If you hate permadeath and punishing RNG, stay away. If you love systems that make failure feel inevitable but keep you chasing one more dungeon anyway, this is essential. Monika, Scout Team

GamerScout Verdict

Best for players who thrive on failure, value aesthetic misery, and accept that your heroes will break long before their bodies do.
