I went in expecting Streets of Rage nostalgia, and 9 Monkeys delivers that in bursts. You play Wei Cheng, a fisherman hunting pirates across hand-crafted side-scrolling stages with satisfying punch-kick rhythms and destructible environments. The co-op (up to four players online or split-screen) keeps combat from getting repetitive, and the pixel art is charming without being precious.
