A solo developer's passion project built from a teenager's bedroom and officially retired in 2026 - the servers are gone, the leaderboards are silent, and what's left is a stripped-down first-person parkour sandbox that never made it out of Early Access.

I want to be honest with you before anything else, because that matters more here than a polished pitch. Vision Runner is a game with a genuinely touching origin story - a single developer who started building it in 2013 at age 18, worked Sundays in a supermarket to fund it, shipped it on Steam in 2016, and officially retired it in 2025 with a heartfelt farewell post to the handful of people who stayed loyal. That story deserves to be told. The game itself, in its current state, is a different conversation. At its core, Vision Runner pitches a build-share-play loop built around first-person parkour. The movement set includes climbing, sliding, and wall running, and the in-game map editor works on a grid system where you place blocks and objects to construct courses, then upload them with a single button press for others to race through via a hub called Parkour Central. On paper that is a clean, focused concept - something between Mirror's Edge's kinetic freedom and Trackmania's obsessive time-trial structure. The Unreal Engine 4 foundation gives it a reasonably clean visual baseline for what is clearly a micro-budget project. Here is the part you need to know before spending anything: the online servers were decommissioned on January 30, 2026. That means Parkour Central is gone. Map sharing is gone. The leaderboards that gave the time-trial loop its entire competitive reason for existing are gone. What remains is a local single-player parkour shell with a map editor that can no longer reach any community. The last major development update arrived in 2018, and the developer has since formally cancelled the project. Steam's own store page flagged that the last developer update was over eight years ago. This is not a sleeping game waiting for a revival - it has been officially laid to rest. For the extremely niche buyer who wants an offline sandbox to build private parkour maps and run them alone, the grid editor is functional and the core movement has enough snap to it to feel intentional. But the player count has always been vanishingly small, the five Steam reviews barely constitute a sample, and the community infrastructure that would have given any of this context is now offline. There is no modding scene, no Discord keeping the lights on, no successor update on the horizon. The developer has moved on to a new project called Runes and Revenue, and Vision Runner exists now only as a library artifact. I have a lot of tenderness for what this game represents - a teenager with a dream, building something from nothing, shipping it against real odds. That handcraft and ambition deserves acknowledgment. But recommending it to someone searching "is Vision Runner worth buying right now" would be doing you a disservice. The skeleton of a good idea is here. The living game is not. Kai, Scout Team
