Acerca de Train Simulator: Portsmouth Direct Line: London Waterloo - Portsmouth Route (DLC)
Portsmouth Direct Line is a DLC route for Train Simulator that adds the historic London Waterloo to Portsmouth corridor, a stretch of track with over 170 years of operational history behind it. Dovetail Games has modelled the 74-mile run with their usual attention to infrastructure detail, covering the suburban sprawl out of Waterloo, the Surrey commuter belt through Woking, the long climb up through Haslemere, and the final descent into Portsmouth Harbour. If you are the type of sim player who cross-references real timetables and notices when a platform canopy is five metres too short, this is your kind of content. On the mechanical side, the route ships with scenarios that put you in the cab of stock appropriate to Southern and South Western Railway operations on this corridor. You get a varied set of services, stopping patterns, and signal blocks to work through. The gradients around the South Downs section are not trivial, and managing brake application on the descent into Portsmouth without overshooting a platform is a genuine challenge worth repeating. The AI traffic filling out the timetable is competent enough to create a believable operational environment, though it is not going to surprise veteran Train Simulator players who already know the AI's ceiling. Where this DLC earns its keep is in the Steam Workshop ecosystem. The route acts as a canvas for community-created scenarios, and a healthy chunk of those pull in additional rolling stock and period-accurate consists that Dovetail never packaged officially. If you already own Southern and South Western era traction packs from prior purchases, they slot in cleanly here and multiply the replayability considerably. The base scenario count in the package itself is modest, which is a fair criticism, but the Workshop depth compensates if you are willing to spend an hour setting up a proper session. For someone new to Train Simulator as a whole, this specific DLC is not the right entry point. The base game and at least one traction pack are prerequisites, and the learning curve for manual driving with realistic physics settings assumes you have already worked through the fundamentals. That said, if you already have a Train Simulator library and you want a well-regarded British mainline with strong topographical variety, Portsmouth Direct Line is a competent addition. The 77 percent positive Steam rating on 124 reviews is a fair reflection: not a standout release, but a solid, well-built route that does exactly what it promises without any serious technical embarrassments. Bottom line for strategy-minded sim players: treat this like a campaign map purchase. The route is the board. The Workshop is your mod library. Your rolling stock collection is your unit roster. Played that way, there are easily 40-plus hours of structured operational sessions available before you exhaust what the corridor offers.
