Not My Day!

I put my strategy brain on hold for this one, and honestly the numbers told the story before I even launched it. Eleven Steam user reviews, eighteen percent positive. That is not a rounding error, that is a verdict. Not My Day! is a first-person, timed survival game where you play a farmer trying to avoid a peculiar escaped prisoner who has wandered onto your land. The core loop: survive through three escalating difficulty stages within a set time limit. That is the whole game. The match-based structure is the only mechanical layer here. There are no resource systems, no build decisions, no branching outcomes, nothing to optimize between runs. Stage one gives you a relatively calm chase, stage two raises the pressure, stage three throws its surprises at you. The developer describes it as absurdist dark comedy, and the psychedelic, mature-tagged Steam listing confirms the humor is intentional and deliberately strange. Whether that lands as charming or baffling depends entirely on your tolerance for low-budget shock comedy in a survival wrapper. Production values are exactly what you would expect from a micro-budget solo indie released in late 2018, having gone through a brief Early Access period beforehand. The geometry is sparse, the audio leans heavily on shouts and reaction sounds, and there is no tutorial to speak of because the concept is simple enough that one is not strictly required. What the game promises, such as a creepy atmosphere and a distinct personality, it at least attempts. The execution, however, does not meet the ambition, and the near-total lack of replayable depth means the run time is measured in minutes rather than hours. There is also a background controversy worth noting. ELECTROSTALIN ENTERTAINMENT was involved in a reported key-revocation dispute with bundle sites in 2018, where purchasers from certain storefronts had their keys revoked. That history has nothing to do with the gameplay, but it explains some of the community hostility still attached to this title and developer. Buying through official channels avoids that particular problem, but it does not fix the game itself. If you are searching for something with the messy, anything-goes energy of a fever-dream jam game and you find the absurdist premise funny on its own, there is a sliver of an audience here. For anyone expecting a coherent survival experience with lasting value, the Steam score is the most accurate review you will find.
