Sunbreak is a full second act for Monster Hunter Rise, new story, new locale, brutal Master Rank hunts, and a monster roster that keeps the endgame alive for hundreds of hours.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak is a major expansion to Rise, the kind of DLC that earns the word "expansion" without apology. It adds a new narrative arc, a fresh locale called the Jungle (alongside other areas), and a slate of returning and brand-new monsters that push well beyond the difficulty ceiling of the base game. If you finished Rise and wanted more teeth in your hunts, this is where Capcom delivers. The centerpiece of Sunbreak is Master Rank, a new difficulty tier that essentially restarts your gear progression. The monsters hit harder, move with more aggression, and some wear their damage like a badge. New creatures such as Malzeno, the flagship vampire-dragon, feel genuinely designed to punish lazy play. The expansion also introduces Follower Quests, letting you take NPC companions into hunts for a solo-friendly co-op feel, and the Switch Skill Swap system gets expanded to give every weapon type more mid-combat flexibility. If you play any of Rise's fourteen weapon types, Sunbreak meaningfully deepens what each one can do. The new locale does its job well enough without being spectacular. The Jungle setting is dense and layered, but the bigger draw is the monster variety. Sunbreak pulls from Monster Hunter's back catalogue smartly, mixing nostalgia hits like Seregios and Garangolm with newcomers that feel fresh on their own terms. The endgame Anomaly Quests extend the grind substantially, introducing a crafting layer that gives hardcore hunters a goal structure well beyond the story credits. Where Sunbreak stumbles slightly is onboarding. If you are not at endgame in the base Rise, this DLC is locked behind story progress and gear levels. That is expected for any Monster Hunter expansion, but new players should know what they are buying into. The Anomaly Investigation system, while deep, can also feel repetitive once you understand its loop. It rewards patience over creativity, which will suit some hunters and exhaust others. On Xbox Series X the performance is clean and the full controller support makes the weapon handling feel dialed in. Online co-op for up to four players remains one of the most satisfying co-op loops in action gaming, especially for the tougher Anomaly fights that genuinely require coordination. If you have anyone to hunt with, the multiplayer side of Sunbreak holds up for a long time. Sunbreak is built for Rise players who want the game to grow up. It does that in almost every direction, with enough content to justify the expansion label and enough monster design quality to remind you why this series has the following it does. Alex, Scout Team
