A budget arcade shmup built by a solo Brazilian dev that wears its 1980s inspirations openly, but a mostly-negative Steam record and crash reports make it a tough sell even at its basement price.

I want to root for this one. Infinity Wings - Scout and Grunt is a debut project from Brazilian solo developer XiNFiNiTY Games, and there is something quietly admirable about a first release that commits this fully to a genre with decades of legacy pressing down on it. You pick your ship before launch, either the lighter Scout or the heavier Grunt, each carrying its own weapons loadout, and then you scroll sideways through procedurally generated space corridors, holding down fire and hoping the boss at the end doesn't erase the run you just spent building. That structure, three inputs (machine gun, special fire, big bomb), progressive wave difficulty, worldwide leaderboards, feels earnest. It is the kind of game that knows what it wants to be. The problem is that knowing what you want to be and delivering it cleanly are different things. Steam's own user record sits at roughly 31 percent positive across a thin pool of reviews, which is a signal worth taking seriously even when the sample is small. Community threads from around launch flag a crash-on-startup issue that some players could not resolve through standard troubleshooting, and key mapping was opaque enough that people were posting forum questions just trying to learn which keys did what. For a game whose entire pitch rests on pick-up-and-play arcade immediacy, a confusing first five minutes is a wound that does not heal. Where the game does land is in its visual hybrid approach. The mix of 2D sprite work with 3D weapon effect rendering gives battles a certain kinetic pop, and boss encounters carry genuine weight when the game is running properly. The procedural level generation means no two runs are identical, which matters in a score-chasing context. If you are the kind of player who genuinely enjoys leaderboard loops, replaying the same framework to squeeze out a higher rank, there is a thin but functional loop here. The Scout and Grunt play differently enough that completionist types will find a reason to double their time investment. But honesty requires saying this: the ceiling is low and the floor is unstable. There is no depth of upgrade system, no unlockable content hinted at in community discussions, no post-launch support that appears to have addressed the technical complaints. This is a 2016 micro-release from a developer making their first public game, and it shows in every seam. It belongs to that specific sub-genre of tiny Steam arcade projects that arrived in a wave during the mid-2010s indie gold rush, some charming, some not, most forgotten. Infinity Wings lands somewhere in the middle, more sincere than cynical, but not polished enough to earn a recommendation without heavy caveats about stability. Kai, Scout Team
