A sub-three-hour arena shooter that knows exactly what it is: a focused, no-frills trigger-pull loop for players who want to clear a room, chase a score, and move on.

I have a soft spot for games that fit in your pocket. Not in the metaphorical sense, but literally - the kind of release that doesn't ask for a weekend, doesn't promise a world, and doesn't pretend it's something grand. Hype Prototype sits firmly in that category, and if you meet it on its own terms, there's a quiet satisfaction waiting inside its compact arena structure. The setup is thin on story but functional: humanity starts vanishing into virtual space through their device screens, and you're dropped into that digital world to find a way out. Each level is a self-contained arena. You clear the enemies, locate the portal, step through. Repeat. There are three weapons on hand at all times - a revolver, a shotgun, and a rifle - each with distinct feel, and the no-reload design means combat stays fluid rather than punishing. Power-ups, coins, and first aid kits scatter the arenas, giving you small decisions to make mid-fight about positioning and priority. Three difficulty settings let you tune the pressure, and a global leaderboard grades your level performance, which is the closest the game gets to a reason to replay. The honest limitation here is content depth. The whole main run clocks in under three hours, and the arena-to-arena structure doesn't evolve much mechanically as you progress. The enemy variety is modest, the narrative is little more than a premise, and anyone expecting the kind of systemic layering you'd find in a roguelite or a wave-shooter with build progression will leave wanting. The score-attack loop and leaderboard can extend the life a little for competitive types, but there's no disguising that this is a short, linear experience. What I will say in its defense is this: the game doesn't lie to you. It presents itself as a bite-sized third-person shooter built around aim practice and clean kinetic feedback, and it delivers that reliably. The futuristic-digital visual palette - that prototype-grid aesthetic - has a consistency to it that feels deliberate rather than budget. For a sub-five-dollar release from a small developer, there's a certain handmade honesty to the whole thing. The handful of Steam players who reviewed it came away positive across the board, which, for a game this quiet, speaks to something. If you're a completionist who enjoys checking achievements on short indie experiences, a shooter fan warming up their aim between bigger titles, or simply someone curious about the margins of the Steam catalog, Hype Prototype occupies that space without embarrassing itself. It is not trying to become your favorite game. It is trying to give you a clean, contained run - and it does. Kai, Scout Team
