A mostly-negative-rated slingshot runner with Halloween dressing and a leaderboard nobody's chasing. Worth a look only if your expectations are already at the floor.

I want to love the small, overlooked things on Steam, and Hooligan Vasja: Halloween fits every surface criterion for that affection: it's tiny, it's goofy, it's drenched in Eastern European cartoon charm, and its whole pitch is a Batman parody wrapped in a Halloween skin. So it genuinely stings to report that the community reception tells a pretty clear story. Sitting at Mostly Negative across its 42 Steam reviews, with roughly 38% positive sentiment, this is one of those releases where good intentions ran out before good execution caught up. Mechanically it follows the same bones as the original Hooligan Vasja: you're climbing toward a rooftop goal, using Vasja's slingshot to fight off waves of enemies that arrive in escalating speed and aggression. The Halloween coat of paint replaces the original's neighbors with seasonal threats: witches, vampires, skeletons, zombies, and grim reapers, all building toward a boss encounter with the Devil Clown. On paper that enemy roster has personality. In practice the gameplay loop is thin enough that the novelty of each creature type fades well before the final stage. The slingshot is the one and only tool, which means there's no weapon switching, no upgrade path, and no way to meaningfully vary your approach run to run. The achievements are present and the game includes a Steam leaderboard, which suggests the intended replay hook is score competition. But with a player base this small and a community forum that has generated only six threads in its entire lifetime, the leaderboard is essentially a personal high-score board. One player flagged a broken achievement that wouldn't unlock despite meeting its conditions, a small but telling sign of where post-launch support landed. The promise of trading cards also caused friction at launch, with cards either delayed or absent for a stretch, which soured part of the audience that had come specifically for that. Where I'll give the series genuine credit is the accessible scope. The original Hooligan Vasja took critique and spawned two seasonal follow-ups, showing a studio that kept making things even if polish lagged. The Halloween entry runs fine on low-spec hardware, localizes into over ten languages, and wraps up in a very short sitting. If you are someone who genuinely enjoys clearing tiny casual runners for completionist points and can set expectations accordingly, the time investment is close to zero. Completion data suggests some players finished everything in roughly one minute, which is either a testament to how short it is or a comment on how quickly the achievements can be farmed. Honestly, I find it hard to advocate for this one even from my usual underdog corner. A short, rough-edged casual runner with a dead leaderboard and a broken achievement report isn't quite the quiet gem that rewards patience. It's closer to a holiday novelty that needed more time in the oven. Kai, Scout Team
