Forest Grove

Forest Grove frames itself as a futuristic mystery where a teenage heiress vanishes under suspicious circumstances, and you're tasked with interviewing suspects and collecting evidence to solve it. The structure is pure point-and-click detective work: talk to characters, pick up clues, cross-reference your notes, and gradually narrow down what happened. For a sub-five-dollar indie title, this is competent storytelling without pretense. The problem is that the actual detective mechanics lack teeth. There's no real failure state, no competing timelines, and little reason to replay with different approaches once you've seen the narrative unfold. It's closer to a visual novel with optional inventory management than a true mystery game where deduction matters. If you want a lean, story-focused experience without demanding puzzles or high stakes, Forest Grove scratches that itch. Just don't expect your investigative choices to branch the plot significantly or leave you second-guessing your conclusions.
