A Story of Distress

I've played enough budget revenge narratives to know when a story's trying to do too much on a shoestring. A Story of Distress drops you into Aston as a merchant seeking vengeance after your brother's murder, then asks you to juggle stealth mechanics, rage management, and what feels like half-baked strategy elements. The core loop, sneak, don't lose your cool, plan your next move, could work, but the execution stumbles. Mechanics feel disconnected; the stealth feels clunky, and the rage mechanic doesn't integrate cleanly with your actual decisions. This isn't a game that rewards deep planning or systematic revenge. It's more a proof-of-concept for ideas that needed another pass. If you're after a tight tactical experience or a compelling character study, look elsewhere. For completionists willing to forgive rough edges and a 2018 indie budget, there's a salvageable foundation here, but it demands patience most players won't have.
