Steam Detective Fest: 10 Mystery Games You Probably Missed

Steam's Detective Fest is back and honestly? There are some real gems hiding in there. Here's what caught my eye.

So here's the thing about Steam sales - you usually know what you're gonna buy before you even open the store page. But Detective Fest 2026? That's different. I spent way too long scrolling through it yesterday and found some seriously cool stuff nobody's talking about.

Look, we all know the big names. Sherlock Holmes games, Paradise Killer, Return of the Obra Dinn. Great games, sure. But I'm more interested in the weird ones lurking in the shadows. Like this one called "The Operator" where you're basically a 911 dispatcher solving crimes through phone calls. Or "Tangle Tower" - imagine if Professor Layton had a goth phase and you're halfway there.

What really grabbed me was this upcoming game called "The Case of the Golden Idol." Yeah, I know it's been out for a bit, but the sequel's dropping later this year and the first one's 60% off right now. You're basically looking at these frozen crime scenes and piecing together what happened using logic puzzles. It's got this creepy pixel art style that just works.

But wait, there's more. "Shadows of Doubt" lets you solve procedurally generated murders in a cyberpunk city. Every single person in the city has their own routine, their own apartment, their own secrets. I once spent three hours tracking down a killer only to realize I'd been following the wrong person the entire time. Still worth it.

Bottom line? Detective Fest runs through January 19th, and there's way more here than just the usual suspects. Some of these games are still in early access, others have been quietly brilliant for years. Either way, your wishlist's about to get a whole lot longer.
