So Neil Newbon just finished Baldur's Gate 3. Yeah, the guy who literally voices Astarion took two whole years to complete his own run. And honestly? His reaction is giving me all the feels.
The actor wrapped up his playthrough recently and called BG3 "perfect" - which, coming from someone who lived and breathed this game during development, hits different. But here's where it gets interesting. Newbon straight up said we probably won't see another game like this "either ever, or for a very, very, very long time." That's... kind of a heavy statement, right?
Look, I get why he's saying this. BG3 was lightning in a bottle. The sheer scope, the branching storylines, the fact that every choice actually mattered - it's been over two years since launch and people are still discovering new stuff. Newbon called it one of his "all-time greatest favorite games ever," and considering this dude's been in the industry for ages, that means something.
What strikes me about his comments is how they mirror what a lot of us have been feeling. Sure, we've had some great RPGs drop in 2025 and early 2026, but nothing's quite captured that same magic. The combination of incredible voice acting (thanks Neil!), insane replayability, and that perfect D&D adaptation? Yeah, we might be waiting a while for the next one.
But you know what? Maybe that's okay. Some games deserve to stand alone as these massive achievements. And if the guy who brought Astarion to life needed two years to finish it, maybe I don't feel so bad about starting my fourth playthrough...
