So here's the thing about Fallout 76 and crossplay - we've been asking for it since, what, 2018? And now in 2026, Bethesda's finally saying they're not totally against the idea anymore. Progress, right?
The devs recently mentioned that while crossplay isn't in their "immediate plans" (classic Bethesda move there), they're actually looking into what it would take to make it work. That's a pretty big shift from their previous stance of basically pretending we weren't begging for this feature every chance we got. I mean, seriously, the game's been out for almost eight years now. Most multiplayer games these days launch with crossplay baked in.
What gets me is that Fallout 76 has honestly become a solid game over the years. The player base has stuck around through all the rough patches, the bugs, the whole canvas bag fiasco - remember that mess? These are the dedicated folks who deserve to play with their friends regardless of platform. Xbox players want to team up with their PlayStation buddies, PC vault dwellers want to explore Appalachia with console friends. It just makes sense.
But let's be real here. "Actively assessing the work required" is corporate speak for "we'll think about it." Still, it's better than a flat no. Maybe by 2027 we'll actually see something concrete? The wasteland's more fun with friends, and right now too many of us are stuck on our own little platform islands.
Fingers crossed Bethesda surprises us for once and actually delivers on this sooner rather than later. The community's waited long enough.
