So here's the thing about this new update from Blizzard - they're really trying to convince us that rebranding Overwatch isn't damage control. According to them, it's actually about making players feel better about the game's future.
You know what's funny? The whole reason they're doing this rebrand is because people keep asking when Overwatch 3 is gonna drop and kill off the current game. I mean, can you blame us? After the whole Overwatch 2 situation, players are basically expecting the rug to get pulled out from under them again. But Blizzard's saying nope, that's not happening. They want everyone to chill about a potential Overwatch 3 swooping in and making their current progress meaningless.
The team called this whole period a "necessary challenge," which honestly sounds like corporate speak for "yeah, we messed up but we're fixing it." Look, I get it. Overwatch has been through some rough patches. The transition from the original to Overwatch 2 wasn't exactly smooth sailing, and players lost faith. Now they're trying to rebuild that trust by basically promising they won't pull the same move twice.
What strikes me is how defensive they sound about it. Like, if you have to insist your rebrand isn't admitting failure, maybe it kinda is? But whatever helps them sleep at night. The real question is whether this actually changes anything for us players or if it's just shuffling deck chairs.
