About Star Trek Legends
I came into Star Trek Legends fully expecting to care about netcode and TTK and left caring about neither, because this is not the shooter-adjacent action RPG the genre tag implies. It is a turn-based character-collector that started life on Apple Arcade in 2021, spent three years getting ported to Steam, Xbox, and consoles, and carries every mobile-design instinct intact across each hop. If that sentence made you hesitate, trust it. The actual mechanics sit in the same postcode as Star Wars Galaxy of Heroes or Marvel Strike Force: you field a squad of four, pick from each character's three or four abilities per turn, and cycle through combat until one side collapses. Initiative order determines who goes first. Cover objects have their own health pools and have to be cracked before you can target enemies hiding behind them, which adds a thin layer of positioning logic. The Explore mission nodes let you branch paths based on who you brought, so having a high-level engineer can bypass a forcefield where Worf would just kick the door down. That much is charming. The rest of the structure is the standard mobile loop repackaged: biometric gel, protomatter, latinum, orb pulls, shuttle timers, bridge crew station buffs, daily operations, weekly War Events. The systems count is high; the depth behind each one is not. The roster is genuinely the game's strongest argument. Across the 95 characters available at launch, you get Kirk, Spock, Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Burnham, Worf, Data, and deep-cut picks most casual fans won't recognize, all with hand-crafted animations. Data's idle pose has him scanning a tricorder, and his disintegration attack lands with the exact emotionless energy you'd want. The Nexus framing device, borrowed from Star Trek Generations, is a legitimately clever way to justify Kirk chatting with Burnham or McCoy squaring up against a Dominion soldier. The story was written by comics veteran Mike Johnson, and the character-to-character dialogue is the best writing in the package, even without voice acting. That last omission stings. A licensed property with 95 named characters and no spoken lines is a missed opportunity this big. The problems pile up fast once the novelty wears off. The PC Steam launch was documented as buggy, with players reporting broken daily login reward chains and missing story progress, and community forum chatter suggests post-launch support has been thin. The combat loop becomes repetitive within a few hours, and an auto-battle feature exists but requires you to manually advance between fights, so you get neither full automation nor genuine engagement. Load times across all versions have drawn consistent criticism. The DLC situation is real: a handful of characters, including Chief O'Brien, are only obtainable by purchasing separate character packs, which rubs completionists the wrong way in a collection-heavy game. The PVP modes, limited-time seasonal leagues and unlimited daily battles, exist on paper but there is no evidence the competitive ladder has the player count or infrastructure to keep ranked meaningful past early tiers. Bottom line: if you have watched every series, know your Dax from your Troi, and can make peace with a mobile-paced grind on a PC screen, there is a narrow band of enjoyment here. If you came because the tags said RPG and multiplayer and you want a game that pulls you in for a serious session, this is the wrong ship. Fred, Scout Team
