About Mortal Kombat™ 1: Definitive Edition Upgrade (DLC)
Mortal Kombat 1's Definitive Edition Upgrade is a DLC bundle, not a standalone game, so let's be clear about what you're actually getting. If you already own the base MK1 on PC and have been eyeing the growing pile of post-launch content without committing to each piece individually, this is NetherRealm's answer to that hesitation. It rolls the Story Expansion, Kombat Pack 1, Kombat Pack 2, the Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II Movie Skins, a stack of Dragon Krystals (the in-game premium currency), and additional extras into one upgrade. Essentially everything released after launch, collected here. The content itself is worth understanding before you buy. The Story Expansion extends the base game's narrative chapter, which split opinion on release but is undeniably slick, well-voiced, and leans hard into the rebooted timeline's multiverse framing. The two Kombat Packs are the meatier additions for competitive and roster-obsessed players. They bring in a mix of returning MK veterans and guest fighters - the kind of crossover picks NetherRealm has made their signature move. Each character comes with their own move sets, Kameo pairings, and fatalities, so even if you only main two or three of them, the lab time is real. The Movie Skins are a nice cosmetic bonus for fans of the films, adding authentic looks tied to the live-action adaptations. Dragon Krystals are premium currency used in the in-game store for cosmetics, and while it's good to have them, their value is tied entirely to what's in the store rotation at any given moment - temper expectations accordingly. Who is this for? Players who bought MK1 at launch or picked it up in a sale and then watched the Kombat Packs release without pulling the trigger on either. If you're playing ranked or just want the full roster available for local split-screen or online PvP sessions, the fighter additions alone justify the bundle math compared to buying each pack separately. Casual players who finished the base story and dipped out might find less to hold them here - the expansion is relatively short and the competitive meta matters a lot more once you're in the Kombat Pack character pool. The technical side on PC is handled by QLOC alongside NetherRealm, and MK1 has generally run well on PC since its rougher launch patches were addressed. HDR support, full controller support, and Remote Play Together are all present, which keeps it accessible across setups. Cross-platform multiplayer means the PC player pool isn't isolated, which matters for matchmaking health. One honest caveat: this is DLC, so it requires the base game. There's no way to evaluate it as a standalone purchase, and since Steam reviews are unavailable for this specific bundle at time of writing, reception is harder to gauge independently. Go by what MK1's post-launch content has looked like in practice - well-produced, fan-service heavy, and mechanically solid if you're already invested in the game's systems. Alex, Scout Team
