Guild Wars 2: Visions of Eternity is the newest expansion chapter for ArenaNet's long-running buy-to-play MMO, and the Deluxe Edition bundles the base expansion key with a Castoran Tentacled Skimmer mount skin, a permanent Fairy Dust gathering tool set, and at least one additional bonus item teased in the product listing. If you already live in Tyria, you know the drill: new maps, new story beats, new masteries, probably a new elite specialisation or two depending on what ArenaNet is cooking. If you are brand new, be aware that GW2's free-to-play core game is your entry point, and expansions layer on top of that foundation rather than replacing it. What GW2 has always done well is its action-oriented, dodge-heavy combat that rewards knowing your build far more than it rewards raw gear score. There is no subscription, no mandatory gear treadmill, and the horizontal progression philosophy means a player returning after two years can still contribute meaningfully in group content without grinding through a hundred catch-up mechanics first. That is genuinely rare in this genre, and worth calling out plainly. The social and cooperative side of the game, from open-world meta events to fractals and raids, remains one of the stronger MMO communities on PC. The caveats are real, though. As of this writing, Visions of Eternity has not yet launched (release date October 28, 2025), which means there are no player reviews, no Metacritic score, and no post-launch patch data to draw from. ArenaNet's expansion track record is a mixed bag: Path of Fire was widely praised for its mount system and map design, Secrets of the Obscure received a more divided response for its episodic content pacing. Where Visions of Eternity lands on that spectrum is genuinely unknown right now. Buying the Deluxe Edition before reviews surface means you are betting on ArenaNet's brand reputation, not on verified content quality. The Deluxe cosmetics, the Tentacled Skimmer skin in particular, look strong based on available marketing imagery, and permanent gathering tools are a quality-of-life unlock that veteran players will appreciate across all characters forever. Whether those extras justify the price premium over the standard edition depends entirely on how much you value cosmetic differentiation in an MMO where looking distinct actually matters socially. GW2 has always had a healthy cosmetic culture, so the answer for long-term players is probably yes, grudgingly. Bottom line for decision-making: if you are already invested in GW2 and trust ArenaNet to deliver reasonable expansion content, the Deluxe Edition's permanent tools alone make the upgrade sensible. If you are evaluating GW2 for the first time, start with the free core game, then consider expansion purchases after the October launch window settles and real reviews exist.
