A bite-sized DLC island that trades swords for fishing rods, letting you stock a fully customisable aquarium with 40 catchable species.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is already one of the better block-building RPGs on Switch, blending Minecraft-style construction with a proper story and likeable characters. The Aquarium Pack is a small content drop that slots neatly into the main game's Isle of Awakening hub. You get a new fishing island accessible through your in-game mailbox, a modest chain of quests, and a cast of new NPCs to meet. It is self-contained enough that it does not demand you have finished the main story, which is a reasonable design choice. The centrepiece mechanic is fishing, which works exactly how you would expect on a handheld: timing-based casts, a short tug minigame, and a growing catalogue of 40 distinct species to haul in. Each fish you catch can be placed inside a DIY aquarium you build yourself, which means the construction toolset from the base game gets a genuinely thematic reason to come back out. Arranging tanks, choosing backdrops, and watching your catches swim around is the kind of low-stakes, high-satisfaction loop that works well in short sessions. It is not deep, but it is pleasant. The honest caveat is that this is unambiguously small. The questline does not carry the narrative weight of the main campaign, the new characters are charming but thin, and anyone hunting for meaningful worldbuilding lore will find the island a relaxing detour rather than a destination. The writing has the series' usual warmth, and the fish names lean into the franchise's pun-heavy naming conventions, which I appreciate. But if your reason for playing Builders 2 was the overarching story or the Malroth character arc, this DLC does not touch any of that. Where the pack earns its place is in extending the builder loop for players who were already deep in the Isle of Awakening and looking for a fresh creative constraint. An aquarium is a genuinely different build challenge compared to the farms, villages, and dungeons the base game pushes you toward. Water placement, glass-block framing, and creature display all pull on skills the main game teaches but rarely tests this specifically. For dedicated builders, that focused creative brief is the real value proposition here. Bottom line: if you bounced off the base game early or have already set it down for good, this DLC will not pull you back. If you are still living on that island and want a new side project with a fishing hook attached, it delivers exactly what it advertises, no more and no less. Monika, Scout Team
