So here's the thing about this new Silent Hill movie - it's apparently a complete disaster. And honestly? I'm not even surprised anymore. Hollywood has this weird curse when it comes to horror video game adaptations, and they just can't seem to break it.
Look, we've seen some decent video game movies lately. The Mario movie crushed it at the box office. Sonic's doing his thing. Even that Fallout show on Amazon turned out pretty great. But horror games? Man, they just can't crack that code. Silent Hill, Resident Evil - these franchises have such rich, terrifying source material, and somehow every movie adaptation feels like it completely misses the point.
What kills me is that Silent Hill should be easy to adapt. The games are already cinematic as hell. You've got psychological horror, creepy monsters, that iconic foggy atmosphere. But instead we get... whatever this new movie is supposed to be. And don't even get me started on how they butchered Resident Evil over the years. Remember when they turned it into generic action schlock? Yeah.
The frustrating part is that horror games work because YOU'RE the one trapped in that nightmare. You're making the choices, you're turning those corners not knowing what's waiting. Movies can't replicate that feeling of dread when you're low on health and your flashlight's dying. They try to compensate with jump scares and CGI monsters, but it's just not the same vibe.
Maybe one day someone will finally nail a horror game adaptation. Until then, I'll just replay Silent Hill 2 for the hundredth time and pretend these movies don't exist.
