So here's the thing about RAM prices - they're about to get absolutely ridiculous. Samsung and SK Hynix just dropped a bombshell on their biggest customers, and honestly? It's not looking good for anyone building a PC or upgrading their rig in 2026.
Word from Korea is that both companies are pushing server DRAM prices up by 60 to 70 percent compared to Q4 of last year. Yeah, you read that right. Seventy percent. And before you think "well that's just for servers, who cares?" - trust me, this stuff always trickles down to consumer products. When server RAM gets expensive, everything gets expensive.
The timing here is pretty suspicious if you ask me. We're right in the middle of this massive AI boom where everyone and their mother needs high-performance memory for their data centers. Nvidia can't make GPUs fast enough, Microsoft and Google are throwing billions at AI infrastructure, and suddenly Samsung and SK Hynix decide it's time to jack up prices? Come on.
What really gets me is that these two companies basically control the entire memory market. Between them, they've got something like 70% of global DRAM production locked down. When they decide to raise prices together like this, what are customers supposed to do? Go somewhere else? Good luck with that.
For us regular folks, this probably means RAM upgrades are gonna hurt the wallet even more in the coming months. My advice? If you've been thinking about adding more memory to your system, maybe don't wait too long. Because once these server price hikes kick in, consumer RAM won't be far behind.
