Soulslike fatigue is real. For every Elden Ring clone that lands on Steam, there are about fifteen that feel like someone read a Wikipedia summary of 'difficulty' and called it a day. Prison of Husks, however, seems to be threading that needle in a way that's turning heads, including from people who have a standing policy of skipping anything that isn't FromSoftware stamped.
The demo has been quietly winning people over with what sounds like genuine craft rather than borrowed aesthetics. When a game makes someone stop mid-session to narrate the scenery to their fiancee like it's a nature documentary, something is clearly clicking on a vibe level that goes beyond just 'it has stamina bars and punishing bosses.' That kind of instinctive engagement is hard to manufacture. The soulslike space in 2026 is crowded enough that standing out requires either a truly distinct mechanical hook or an atmosphere thick enough to cut through the noise, and Prison of Husks apparently has enough of both to earn a genuine second look from committed skeptics. If you've written off the genre outside of FromSoft's own catalog, this one might be worth the download before the demo window closes.
