Primal S3 Episode 2 Proves They're Not Playing It Safe

Zombie Spear could've been the whole season. Thank god it's not. Episode 2 shows Primal still knows how to surprise us.

So here's the thing about zombie stories - they usually go one of two ways. Either the undead character shambles around for episodes on end while everyone cries about it, or they find a cure in like five minutes. Primal Season 3 just said "nah" to both options.

Episode 2 dropped today and honestly? I was worried after that Season 2 finale. Seeing Spear go down the way he did hit different. When they teased his return as some kind of prehistoric zombie, part of me thought we'd spend the whole season watching him grunt and stumble around while Fang tried to jog his memory or whatever. But that's not what we're getting. At all.

Without spoiling too much, the show's already moving past the obvious zombie tropes. Yeah, Spear's different now, but they're not milking it for cheap drama. The episode throws us right into new territory - literally and figuratively. There's this whole thing with ancient magic that actually makes sense in the Primal universe. Wild, right?

What really got me was how they handled Fang's reaction to everything. You'd expect endless moping, but instead we get pure dinosaur determination. And those action sequences? Still brutal as ever. The animation team clearly didn't slack off just because they're dealing with supernatural stuff now.

Look, I'll admit I was skeptical when they announced a third season. How do you follow up that emotional gut-punch of an ending? Turns out you lean into the weird and trust your audience to come along for the ride. Two episodes in and Primal's already proven it's not here to play it safe in 2026.
