So here's the thing about Mario Tennis Fever - Nintendo went absolutely wild with the character roster this time around. We're talking 38 playable characters, which honestly might be the biggest lineup we've seen in a Mario sports game yet.
You've got your usual suspects like Princess Peach and Mario himself, but then they threw in some real curveballs. Petey Piranha? He's in. Waluigi? Obviously. But get this - they even added baby versions of some characters. Baby Waluigi is officially a thing now, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.
What really gets me is how they're gonna balance all these characters. I mean, Petey Piranha is literally a giant plant monster. How's that fair when he's playing against, say, Baby Mario? The hitboxes alone must be a nightmare to program. But knowing Nintendo, they'll probably give each character some unique ability or playstyle to keep things interesting.
The full roster dropped on Steam earlier today, and fans are already arguing about who's missing. No Geno, which has the usual crowd upset. And where's Pauline? She was in Mario Tennis Aces back in 2018, so her absence here feels weird. Still, 38 characters is nothing to complain about. That's gonna make for some chaotic doubles matches.
Mario Tennis Fever launches later this year, though Nintendo hasn't locked down an exact date yet. Fingers crossed they announce something soon because my Switch is getting dusty.
