Marathon's Season 2 Loot Flood Is Out of Control

Players are drowning in gear at a pace Bungie clearly didn't plan for, and the studio openly admits it doesn't fully know why yet.

Something went sideways in Marathon's Season 2 economy, and it's the kind of problem that sounds great on paper until it isn't. Players are stacking loot and climbing power at a rate that makes last season look like a slow crawl, and the snowball effect is real enough that Bungie has publicly acknowledged the situation while admitting they're still piecing together the root cause. Their words, roughly: progression and access to power moved way faster than intended, and they're still untangling exactly where the faucet got left on.

This is the sort of behind-the-scenes messiness that extraction shooters are particularly vulnerable to, since gear acquisition and risk-reward loops are basically the whole game. When that balance tips too far in the player's favor, the tension that makes each run feel meaningful just evaporates. Bungie tracking it down in real time is good, and being transparent about it is better, but the longer the mystery drags on the more players get used to the inflated flow, which makes any correction feel like a nerf even if it's just a fix. Season 2 is young enough that there's room to course-correct without wrecking the whole experience, but the clock is ticking.
