So remember that sick trailer at The Game Awards last month? Yeah, Highguard just went live and the devs are feeling the pressure. The folks at Wildlight dropped their free-to-play PvP raid shooter today on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PS5, and they're making some big promises about sticking around.

Here's what caught my attention though. They're not just launching and hoping for the best. The team says they've already got a full year of post-launch content "deep in development." That's refreshing, honestly. Too many games launch these days and then scramble to figure out what comes next. Sounds like Wildlight actually has a plan here.

The game's got full crossplay right out of the gate, which is basically mandatory for any multiplayer shooter in 2026. But what I'm really curious about is whether they can keep players engaged long-term. The raid shooter genre's gotten pretty crowded lately, and free-to-play means they'll need to nail that content pipeline to keep the lights on.

Look, I'm cautiously optimistic here. Having that Game Awards spotlight definitely put them on everyone's radar, and the devs seem aware they can't mess this up. Whether Highguard becomes the next big thing or another forgotten shooter? We'll know by summer. For now though, it's free, it's live, and my download just finished. Time to see what all the fuss is about.
