So here's the thing about Superman - he's been getting his butt kicked a lot lately. Grant Morrison, the genius behind All-Star Superman, just came out swinging about James Gunn's take on the Man of Steel. And they're not exactly thrilled.
Morrison's main beef? They want to see Superman actually fight back instead of constantly playing the victim. Look, I get it. We've seen Clark take beating after beating in recent movies, always on the defensive, always getting tossed through buildings. Remember when Superman used to be, you know, super?
The timing's interesting too. Gunn's Superman movie drops next year in 2027, and everyone's wondering what direction he'll take. Will we get another brooding, conflicted Clark who spends half the movie getting pummeled? Or will Gunn actually let Superman be Superman? Morrison clearly hopes for the latter.
What strikes me is how this taps into a bigger issue with modern superhero movies. They love showing heroes struggle, which is fine, but sometimes you just want to see Superman catch that punch and say "nice try." Morrison wrote one of the best Superman stories ever, so when they speak up about the character, people listen.
Personally? I'm with Morrison on this one. Sure, vulnerability makes characters relatable, but Superman's supposed to inspire us. Hard to feel inspired when he's constantly getting thrown through skyscrapers. Here's hoping Gunn's listening.
