Tabletop fans who have been homebrewing vampire characters since forever finally have something official to sink their teeth into. Wizards of the Coast is teaming up with the Vampire: The Masquerade license to deliver a proper vampire class for D&D, meaning you won't have to jury-rig a Rogue subclass or beg your DM to let you feed on NPCs anymore. This is a full, purpose-built class designed around the blood-drinking, shadow-lurking, morally complicated fantasy that VtM has been doing since the early 90s.
The timing makes a lot of sense. Baldur's Gate 3 turned Astarion into one of the most beloved RPG characters in recent memory, and that wave of vampire enthusiasm never really died down. Plenty of players who wouldn't normally touch a VtM sourcebook are now deeply invested in what it feels like to play an actual vampire rather than a character with vampire-adjacent abilities bolted on. If this class captures even half of what makes the Masquerade setting compelling, things like the tension between your monstrous hunger and your fragile humanity, it could be one of the more interesting mechanical additions D&D has seen in a while. No firm release window has been announced yet, but the collaboration itself is confirmed and the hype is already very real.
