So Bloober Team had us all hyped up for their Valentine's Day announcement, and honestly? I was betting on Cronos 2. But nope. The Silent Hill 2 Remake devs just dropped the news that they're working on Layers of Fear 3 instead.

Look, I get it. The Layers of Fear series has its fans, and the first two games definitely had their moments. That whole painter-loses-his-mind thing in the original was genuinely creepy. But after they knocked it out of the park with Silent Hill 2's remake last year, I was hoping for something... different? Maybe that's just me being greedy.

Here's what bugs me though. They've been teasing this announcement for weeks with all these cryptic posts about love and fear. Classic horror game marketing, right? And yeah, Valentine's Day makes sense for a horror reveal because nothing says romance like psychological terror. But when you've got fans speculating about a Cronos sequel, maybe manage those expectations a bit better?

Don't get me wrong. I'll probably play Layers of Fear 3 when it drops. Bloober's gotten way better at their craft since 2026 started, and their recent track record speaks for itself. Plus, who knows? Maybe third time's the charm for this series. They haven't announced a release date yet, but I'm guessing we'll see it sometime in 2027.

Still though. Part of me really wanted to see what they'd do with Cronos 2. That first game ended on such a weird cliffhanger. Guess we'll keep waiting on that one.
