Asus AR Gaming Glasses at CES 2026: Yeah, That's a No From Me

Tried Asus's new micro-OLED AR gaming glasses at CES. They're... something. Not sure if gaming needs this kind of weird right now.

So I just spent 20 minutes with Asus's new AR gaming glasses at CES 2026, and honestly? I'm still trying to figure out what I just experienced. These micro-OLED beauties are supposed to be the future of gaming or whatever, but right now they feel more like a solution looking for a problem.

Here's the deal. You put these things on and suddenly you've got a floating display in front of your face. Cool in theory, right? But in practice, it's like trying to game while someone's holding a TV three feet from your nose. The micro-OLED tech is impressive, sure. Colors pop, blacks are deep, and the resolution is sharp enough. But why would I want this instead of, you know, my actual monitor that doesn't make me look like I raided a sci-fi movie prop department?

The whole setup feels awkward too. You're supposed to pair these with your PC or console, but then what? I tried playing some Overwatch 2 and kept losing track of where my actual desk was. Nearly knocked over my coffee twice. And don't even get me started on how these things feel after wearing them for more than 10 minutes. My nose was not happy.

Look, I get it. AR is the hot new thing and every tech company wants their piece of the pie. But slapping "gaming" on a pair of AR glasses doesn't automatically make them good for gaming. Maybe there's potential here for specific use cases. Racing sims? Flight simulators? Sure, maybe. But for your average gaming session? I'll stick to my boring old monitor that doesn't give me a headache.

Asus says these are hitting the market later in 2026. No word on pricing yet, but I'm guessing they won't be cheap. If you're into collecting weird gaming peripherals, knock yourself out. Me? I'll be watching this one from the sidelines.
