2025's horror games were so scary I had to sleep with the lights on

Okay, real talk - 2025 absolutely crushed it when it comes to horror games. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I've gone through more pairs of pants this year than ever before. And honestly? Worth every penny.

Silent Hill f was the big one everyone was waiting for, and holy crap did it deliver. Set in 1960s Japan, this game had me jumping at shadows in my own apartment for weeks. The way it uses Japanese folklore mixed with that classic Silent Hill psychological horror? Chef's kiss. But also, I hate it. You know what I mean.

Then there's Routine. Remember when we first heard about this back in like 2013? Yeah, that Routine. It finally dropped this year and turns out the wait was worth it. Being trapped on a moon base with... whatever those things are... while your oxygen slowly runs out? I've never been more stressed playing a game. The permadeath feature is brutal too - one wrong move and you're starting from scratch.

But here's what really got me about 2025's horror lineup - it wasn't just the big names. We got some wild indie stuff too. That one where you're stuck in an endless grocery store at 3am? Genuinely unsettling. Or the one where your house slowly changes every time you blink? I still don't trust my own bathroom anymore.

Look, I know horror games aren't for everyone. But if you're into getting your heart rate up without actually exercising, 2025 was your year. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go check that my closet door is still closed. Again.
